Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO - CLOUD FOREST - BAMBU LODGE

Early in the morning you will leave from Cusco in our bus and travel towards Huancarani where we will have breakfast (not included). Afterwards we’ll continue to visit the funeral tower of Ninamarca. Then we´ll continue towards Paucartambo. Here, we’ll have a small city tour to discover this charming colonial town, famous for its folkloric traditions. Once in Acjanaco (3560 m), the entrance to Manu National Park, our guide will explain us everything about the Reserve, including rules and characteristics. From this point, we’ll start to descend through the Cloud Forest, an amazing ecosystem where we’ll admire plenty of orchids, heliconias and primitive ferns. As well, we’ll observe several kinds of birds like the variable hawk, many types of flycatchers, crested oropendolas and, with some luck, Monkeys, the Amazonian Umbrella bird and some quetzals. On the way, we’ll also make a stop to observe the beautiful Cock of the Rock, Peru’s national bird. We will spend our first night in BAMBU LODGE.

DAY 2: BAMBU LODGE – ATALAYA PORT – CASA MATCHIGUENKA- COCHA OTORONGO.

After a delicious breakfast we’ll leave the lodge and continue our journey towards Puerto Atalaya. On the way, we will make a stop. We’ll have to observe the flora and fauna. We’ll also stop in some local plantations to observe and learn more about jungle agricultural products like coca, yuca and different kinds of tropical fruits. In Atalaya, we will take our boat by Alto Madre de Dios River one of the tributaries of the mighty Amazon River. During our day we will have the chance to see many types of colourful birds such as parrots, oropendolas, vultures and others species. Hopefully, we will see some jungle mammals such as monkeys or the famous capybaras (jungle rodents that are about 2.5 ft long. behind and enter the clay laden waters of the Manu river with a brief stop at the park ranger station at Limonal to present our permits. In the afternoon, we will arrive at our next sleeping destination. We aim to arrive in the Afternoon. Specially constructed piers that jut out into the lake enable us to look for a family of Giant Otters that live here. Each animal consumes between 4 and 5 kilos of fish daily and often they can be seen eating large fish on logs at the lakeside. The rest of the day will be spent walking the trails in the area in search of some of the 13 species of Monkey found in the forest here.
