Here we will rest a bit and have lunch, before beginning our descent into the warm valleys of the high jungle. It will be a 3-hour panoramic descent, while we pass through small rustic villages, passing through some fruit trees and over ravines and streams. During the tour we will also make 2 stops at the archaeological sites of Inkatambo (“Lodging Place” in Quechua), which was the Inka fortress that guarded the route from the jungle to the mountains (route that has now been paved) and also Huamanmarka ( “Land of Hawks”), an extensive set of ruins that includes a main square, a sacred temple, an urban sector, administrative areas, agricultural terraces along the river, and a religious and ceremonial center (Ushnu). Arriving in Santa María there is the option of Rafting in the river (extra tour) Each of the guided tours will last approximately 30 minutes. After which, we will finally arrive at the small town of Santa Maria, around 5 p.m. m., where we will take a local bus to Santa Teresa (a one-hour trip). That is where we will have dinner and spend the night in a hostel.
After an awakening at 6:00 am, we will have a typical breakfast and continue our walk. Zip Line (optional extra tour) Today we will walk in the direction of the Hydroelectric Power Station for approximately 2.5 hours. Once we arrive at the Hydroelectric Plant, we will visit a small archaeological site nearby that has an “Intiwatana” (sundial). After the brief tour of the site, we will have a break and lunch in view of the dam before continuing to the final destination of the day….Aguas Calientes, where we will arrive at approx. 5:30 pm. We will immediately move to the hotel to rest and leave our things.
