Early in the morning you will leave Cusco on our bus and travel to Huancarani where we will have breakfast (not included). Then we will continue visiting the funerary tower of Ninamarca. Then we will continue to Paucartambo. Here we will do a small city tour to discover this charming colonial town, famous for its popular traditions. Once in Acjanaco (3560 m), the entrance to the Manu National Park, our guide will explain everything about the Reserve, including rules and characteristics. From this point, we will begin to descend through the Cloud Forest, an incredible ecosystem where we will admire many orchids, heliconias, and primitive ferns. In addition, we will observe various types of birds such as the variable hawk, many types of flycatchers, crested orioles, and with a bit of luck, monkeys, the Amazon umbrella bird, and some quetzals.

After a delicious breakfast we will leave the lodge and continue our trip to Puerto Atalaya. On the way, we will make a stop. We will have to observe the flora and fauna. We will also stop at some local plantations to observe and learn more about the agricultural products of the jungle such as coca, cassava and different types of tropical fruits. In Atalaya, we will take our boat across the Alto Madre de Dios, one of the tributaries of the mighty Amazon River. During our day we will have the opportunity to see many types of colorful birds such as parrots, orioles, vultures and other species. Hopefully, we will see some jungle mammals like monkeys or the famous capybaras (jungle rodents that measure around 2.5 feet). length. In the afternoon, we will arrive at our next sleeping destination Hummind Bird Lodge. Our goal is to arrive here in the afternoon, there will be showers and toilets available. We will do a night walk that is the best time to see many anthropoids, tarantulas, scorpions and snakes. This is of course optional.

After breakfast we will spend the morning at Cocha Salvador Lake. You will spend part of your time canoeing on the lake using a catamaran to observe animal life from the water. We may come across an Agami heron or a Sungrebe and brown capuchin monkeys often feed on nearby fruits. The specially built docks that jut out into the lake allow us to search for a family of giant otters that live here. The world's largest freshwater carnivores, they remain common only on Manu, having been hunted to extinction throughout most of their former range. Each animal consumes between 4 and 5 kilos of fish a day and it is common to see them eating large fish on logs on the shore of the lake. The rest of the day will be spent walking the trails in the area in search of some of the 13 species of monkeys found in the forest here. Your guide will explain some of the basics of rainforest ecosystems and point out some of the area's medicinal plants used by local indigenous groups. It is possible that we will come across a group of peccaries, a species of wild boar found here. During the afternoon we enjoyed the sunset. Night at Casa Matsiguenka.

Once again, we got up early, enjoyed walking around the lodge, and then packed up and slowly made our way up the river. We continue to Bambu lodge. On the way we will make a stop at a beautiful hot springs spot, where we will spend some time relaxing and swimming. Located a short distance from the Alto Madre de Dios rivers, we then continue to the port of Atalaya, where our bus awaits us. And it will take 25 minutes until our last night at the Lodge. and spend one more night in this magical Amazon jungle.

This day is very sad that we have to leave our wonderful forest full of mysteries and return to Cusco. Then we will have breakfast. We will continue through the cloud forest, with a few more opportunities to see birds. We then travel back to the Andes to return to Cusco in the afternoon. ***NOTE: The order of the activities mentioned in this program may change according to weather conditions.
