In the morning, our specialized birding guide will pick you up from your hotel between 5:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. in a private minivan, where we will immerse ourselves in the magic of the Peruvian bird life. Visiting two hummingbird sanctuaries in one day offers a complete immersion experience in the ecosystem. We will depart from the city of Cusco for a 30-minute minivan tour. Our first visit will be to the Pachacutec Hummingbird Sanctuary, where more than 40 species of birds have been recorded, as well as a botanical garden that houses more than 7,000 nectar plants of 47 different species. Our activity will last approximately 2 hours. Here we will be able to appreciate and photograph birds and hummingbirds such as: Creamy-crested Spinetail (Cranioleuca albicapilla), Spot-winged Pigeon (Patagioenas maculosa), Eared Dove (Zenaida auriculata), Tyrian Metaltail (Metallura tyrianthina), Giant Hummingbird (Patagona gigas), Great Thrush (Turdus fuscater), Chiguanco Thrush (Turdus chiguanco), Blue-and-yellow Tanager (Rauenia bonariensis), Black-throated Flowerpiercer (Diglossa brunneiventris), Golden-billed Saltator (Saltator aurantiirostris), Green-tailed Trainbearer (Lesbia nuna), Black-backed Grosbeak (Pheucticus aureoventris), Bare-faced Ground Dove (Metriopelia ceciliae), Hooded Siskin (Spinus magellanicus), Chestnut-breasted Mountain Finch (Poospizopsis caesar), Band-tailed Seedeater (Catamenia analis), Rusty-fronted Canastero (Asthenes ottonis), Sparkling Violetear (Colibri coruscans) and White-bellied Hummingbird (Elliotomyia chionogaster).
After the first activity we go to the Huacarpay Wetland, this place has an invaluable ecosystem with important cultural, scenic and ecological value, making it an important destination for bird watching. Activities here include guided walks to observe flora and fauna, with species such as: Cinnamon Teal (Spatula cyanoptera), Yellow-billed Teal (Anas flavirostris), Plumbeous Rail (Pardirallus sanguinolentus), Common Gallinule (Gallinula galeata), Slate-colored Coot (Fulica ardesiaca), Black-crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax), American Kestrel (Falco sparverius), Wren-like Rushbird (Phleocryptes melanops), Many-colored Rush Tyrant (Tachuris rubrigastra), Yellow-winged Blackbird (Agelasticus thilius), Stygian Owl (Asio stygius), Cocoi Heron (Ardea cocoi), Mitred Parakeet (Psittacara mitratus), Peruvian Pygmy-Owl (Glaucidium peruanum), Spotted Sandpiper (Actitis macularius), Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle (Geranoaetus melanoleucus), Chilean Flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis), Band-tailed Sierra Finch (Rhopospina alaudina), Andean Flicker (Colaptes rupícola) and Silvery Grebe (Podiceps occipitalis).
We head to the Secred Garden Hummingbird Sanctuary. The duration of the bird watching is approximately 2 hours. This sanctuary is dedicated to the conservation of fauna and flora. It is a spectacular place designed for photographing and observing birds and hummingbirds, with species such as: Bearded Mountaineer (Oreonympha nobilis), Green-and-white Hummingbird (Elliotomyia viridicauda), Chestnut-breasted Mountain Finch (Poospizopsis caesar), Andean Tinamou (Nothoprocta pentlandii), Great Thrush (Turdus fuscater), Creamy-crested Spinetail (Cranioleuca albicapilla), Rufous-webbed Bush-Tyrant (Cnemarchus rufipennis), Giant Hummingbird (Patagona gigas), White-bellied Hummingbird (Elliotomyia chionogaster), Black-backed Grosbeak (Pheucticus aureoventris), Green-tailed Trainbearer (Lesbia nuna), Black-throated Flowerpiercer (Diglossa brunneiventris), Black-tailed Trainbearer (Lesbia victoriae), Eared Dove (Zenaida auriculata), Sparkling Violetear (Colibri coruscans), Mitred Parakeet (Psittacara mitratus), Rusty Flowerpiercer (Diglossa sittoides) and Peruvian Pygmy-Owl(Glaucidium peruanum).
