Manu Dorado Rainforest Lodge Tour 5D/4N

After an early breakfast, we continue our journey by minibus: we pass through the town of Pilcopata and cross the Pilcopata River to reach the small port of Atalaya (600 m). Along the way, we’ll stop for some bird-watching hikes, visit an animal rescue center, and look for orchids. Before reaching Atalaya, we’ll enjoy a great view of the river basin from a lookout point. At the port, we’ll embark on a half-hour trip in a 15-meter motorized canoe down the Alto Madre de Dios River. Along the way, we’ll hike along trails near the river and visit Cocha Machuwasi, on the opposite side of the river. We’ll use a wooden raft to explore the lake and go birdwatching. Then we’ll travel for about 4 hours in a motorized canoe down the Upper Madre de Dios River to reach the lowland rainforest and our lodge. We’ll spot Glitter Jays, Skimmers, and some of the monkey species that live in Manu. In the evening, we can go caiman spotting on the river or take a night hike. We’ll spend the night at Dorado Lodge. Accommodations: rooms with private bathrooms.

At dawn, we’ll travel downstream to the parrot clay lick, a special spot where parrots, parakeets, and small macaws gather to consume mineral-rich clay that aids their digestion. Among the species we’ll see are the chestnut-fronted macaw and the colorful blue-and-yellow macaws. After enjoying this fascinating natural spectacle, we’ll return to the lodge for breakfast. Later, we’ll explore the nearby trails, where we’ll have the opportunity to observe various species of monkeys and birds in their natural habitat. After lunch, we’ll enjoy a short rest before setting out on a night hike through the jungle in search of spiders, snakes, tree frogs, and other nocturnal animals. We’ll also explore the surrounding area, where we may spot a tapir, one of the Amazon’s most iconic mammals. Finally, we’ll return to our lodge to rest.

After enjoying our breakfast, we’ll cruise upriver, surrounded by the breathtaking Amazonian landscapes and with the chance to spot various species of birds and capybaras along the riverbanks. During the trip, we’ll stop at the natural hot springs, where you can relax and enjoy a moment of tranquility in the heart of nature. Refreshed and full of energy, we’ll continue on to the port of Atalaya, where our ground transportation will be waiting to take us back to the lodge. There, we’ll enjoy our last night, reminiscing about the experiences and wonderful encounters with nature that this Amazon adventure has given us.

We’ll begin our return journey to Cusco by traveling through the fascinating cloud forest, an ecosystem teeming with life and stunning landscapes. Before continuing, we’ll visit the Inka Amazonica Hummingbird Garden, where we’ll be able to admire these small birds—iconic to the region and known for their vibrant colors and swift movements—up close. Along the way, we’ll make a few stops to enjoy one last look at the flora and fauna, with the chance to spot birds and monkeys in their natural habitat. Finally, we’ll continue our journey to the city of Cusco, arriving between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., taking with us unforgettable memories of our Amazon adventure.
